How to Reach Thommankuthu from Kochi

Route we followed:

Kochi → Angamaly → Thodupuzha → Uravappara → Thommankuthu → Anachadikuthu

The road condition was good throughout the journey, making it suitable even for family trips and beginner drivers.

To reach Thommankuthu, first travel to Thodupuzha, the nearest major town (around 18–20 km away). From there, local buses and taxis are available toward Karimanoor and nearby waterfall destinations.

Sunrise above the clouds

Sunrise at Uravappara – Clouds Below the Mountains

Our day started early at 7 AM at Uravappara Temple.

What greeted us there was unforgettable.

Clouds floated below the mountain ridges while soft golden sunlight slowly pierced through them. Instead of standing above the clouds, it felt like we were inside them.

The morning silence made the experience even more powerful.

For photographers, Uravappara is a dream location for:

  • Sunrise landscapes
  • Cloud formations
  • Wide-angle mountain shots
  • Drone cinematics

The view here feels magical, especially during monsoon and post-monsoon seasons.

Anachadikuthu – A Forest Hidden in Water

Next we headed to Anachadikuthu Waterfalls.

The moment we entered, the atmosphere changed completely.

Dense forest. Rich greenery. Bird calls. Flowing water.

It felt untouched.

What surprised me most was how safe and family-friendly the area felt while still preserving its wild forest character.

As a photographer, this place offered endless details to capture:

  • Wet rocks
  • Flowing streams
  • Moss textures
  • Tiny reflections
  • Water movement

I set up for some long-exposure waterfall photography and started experimenting with slow shutter shots.

At one point, I noticed a traveler bathing beneath the waterfall. That spontaneous human presence added life and scale to the frame — turning a beautiful landscape into a memorable photograph.

Higher up, Anachadikuthu reveals wider forest views and layered terrain that photographers will love.

Thommankuthu – When the Forest Starts Singing

Only about 15 km away, Thommankuthu Waterfalls gave us a very different mood.

This wasn’t dramatic.

It was peaceful.

We walked through the forest with friends during a photo walk. The weather stayed cool and calm, followed by a gentle drizzle.

That drizzle changed everything.

Rain gave rhythm to the forest.

The leaves shimmered. Water intensified. Every sound became clearer.

Thommankuthu feels different from Anachadikuthu:

  • Less vertical drop
  • Wider waterfall spread
  • Softer water flow
  • Easier to enjoy with family

As evening approached around 6 PM, we took shelter in a small forest watch hut while rain fell steadily around us.

For a few moments, nobody spoke.

We simply listened.

Rain. Wind. Water.

Sometimes, that silence becomes the best memory of a trip.
