Today, a journey unfolds as we set our sights on the enchanting realm of Thattekad Bird Sanctuary. Our voyage commences from the vibrant town of Angamaly, a mere 1.5 kilometers leading us to the heart of this natural haven.
In the sanctuary’s embrace, a symphony of over 270 avian species awaits our discovery. Beyond its feathered inhabitants, the wilderness reveals its secrets, harboring 34 species of mammals, 15 species of amphibians, 30 species of reptiles, and a hidden world of 47 aquatic creatures. The landscape is a canvas painted with hues of tropical evergreen, whispers of semi-evergreen, and a mosaic of moist deciduous and riparian forests.
Years ago, the significance of this sanctuary was unveiled by the visionary ornithologist, Dr. Salim Ali. A homage to his legacy, it’s fondly known as the Salim Ali National Park. The sanctuary’s embrace extends to a tranquil oasis, a sanctuary for butterflies, a playground that echoes with children’s laughter, a treehouse perched high above the canopy, and a realm of boating and trekking adventures.
